CAPE COD TANGO – APRIL 2016      Hsueh-tze Lee

BIO

Hsueh-tze teaches Argentine tango across North America and internationally. She holds a key role in the growth of various tango communities including Boston, Denver, Portland and Singapore. A North American pioneer as both a leader and follower for over 25 years, Hsueh-tze has insights that are invaluable for helping dancers become creative, expressive and skilled partners. She is also a link to tango’s Golden Age, from dancing with extraordinary milongueros over annual trips to Buenos Aires since the late 1990’s. Hsueh-tze hosts and DJs Blue Milonga, the popular second Saturday dance in Boston.   (See Blue Tango website: www.bluetango.org)

TANGO VALS

Tango vals’ special dynamic includes surges, swirls and suspensions, arising from tango steps danced to syncopated vals rhythms. There are four major triple-time vals rhythms, each is associated with a distinctive dynamic. We’ll explore how a single tango figure has inherently many possible ways it can be danced, and how these syncopated rhythms form the basis of a powerful approach for creating flowing, dynamic and suspenseful valses.
